(ok josh, here's your story) You were born in the city of Eriis where your family has had a growing herbalism shop for several generations. When you were little it was found that you had the Gift of Green, you could communicate and work magic through plants. Like your grandfather before you, you studied at the College of Mages learning your letters and the history of your land. At home you learned magic from your grandfather who also has the Green Gift, and you helped your parents with the herbalist shop. Your family's shop "The Green Thumb" is the most famous in the city--and it's quite a large city at that. Now, it's the day after you passed the test to become a Journeyman Green Mage. Last night, after the Journeyman ceremony, under the light of the full moon your family celebrates your new status by giving you gifts. Your grandfather's gift was the last, but it was the most precious, he has seen fit to gift you with Metharshae. This staff has been passed down in your family from Green Mage to Green Mage for generations, the family legend says your ancestor, a powerful Green Mage, found the Tree of Life and from it's boughs begot Metharshae. Your grandfather has shown you great respect and confidence with his trusting Metharshae to you. Today is the first day of your "Journey" to Master Green Mage. Your grandfather, at your Journeyman ceremony, gave you your journey. You are to go north into the mountains of Sang-ra-Lye, there you will travel to the ancient monastery of Monj-Siae, there you will find your ancestor's journal. He is Green Mage who found Metharshae, his name was Randor the Healer. Randor was a great adventurer who traveled to many places. Your grandfather wished you to find his journal and collect the remarkable herbs said to be revealed within the ancient pages. He has given you one week to prepare for your journey to the mountains. You have gathered multiple seed packs in preparation for the journey, however you now need to acquire the gear needed to survive the frozen peaks. You go to the market place in search of supplies, you know that it will take 5 weeks travel on foot and three weeks travel on horse to reach the monestary. To carry that much gear you will need a pack mule. Your family is in the upper-merchant class and has agreed to foot the bill for your journey as long as you pay them back when you return, so you have plenty of money for supplies, though if you spend extravagantly you'll be more indebt to them and the less freindly they'll feel toward you. Do you spend modestly, only getting the things you'll need to survive (this option includes a pack mule, but does not include a horse or magic items)? Do you spend generously, getting only a few extra comforts(this option includes a pack mule, a good horse, and small magic items)? Or do you spend extravagantly, getting many extra comforts and fancy gadgets(this option includes a sturdy pack mule, a well-bred horse, and good magic items)? (Choose modest, generous, or extravagant. Then choose a number between 1 and 20). After you collect your supplies you say farewell to your family and head out on your northerly journey.

Your supplies cost you a good bit of gold, but you figure it wouldn't take long to repay your family; especially when you find the journal and the rare herbs. You start away from the city you were born and raised in, you are a little sad to be leaving your family for the first time, but are excited at the prospect of danger and adventure. Your horse is a good natured gelding but gets a bit friskey when not allowed to go the speed he wants, by the end of the first day you are glad your cousin taught you how to ride, even though you are extremely sore when you set up your camp for that night. As your dinner is stewing, you ask the vines and bushes surrounding your campsite to watch for creatures that could be dangerous to you. You happen to be holding Metharshae when you do this and notice that you can converse with plants a lot farther away than you usually can. You let go of the staff and the range of your powers shrinks to it's usual size. You pick up the staff once more and inspect it closer, there seems to be many differnt kinds of vines and plants engraved upon it's surface. You spot a mugwort leave and muse aloud about how you miss making healing potions with this same herb at home, you happen to say the plant's name aloud while touching the engraving, and the staff tingles under your fingertips. The image shimmers and sparkles and suddenly you are holding a leaf of mugwort in your hand. The engraved image has dissapeared off of the staff. You figure that if you could take a leaf off of the staff then you could put one back on. Knowing the basics of magical creations you try several different incantations and magical glyphs, but none work. You are getting frustrated by now and push the leaf to the staff where you had taken it off and say, "There's got to be a way to put this back on you. If only I knew how!" In your frustration you had talked to Metharshae as if it were sentient. As soon as you say this you feel something brush your mind, it felt like a plant, but was more ancient that anything you've ever communicated with. The plant brushed your mind once again leaving the impression of knowledge, of growth unconcerned for millenias, of life above and beyond any of your wildest imaginings. "Metharshae..." you whisper aloud staring at the staff in wonder. You feel an answering touch on your mind and suddenly the mugwort leaf you are holding against the staff shimmers and seems to sink into the staff. An engraving of the leaf is left when you lift your hand. You say thank you to Metharshae and feel an acknowledgeing touch on your mind. You can't seem to contact it with your mind, it's like nothing is there, but it seems to have no problem contacting you. The next day you continue on your quest and are attacked by a band of bandits. There are 4 of them. They are a rag-tag group of ruffians with rusty short swords and random bits of armor. Your seed bags are in a special made vest that you are wearing. You have 15 lethal seed bags, 20 destructive seed bags, and 30 binding seed bags. Your staff is in arms reach but you only have enough time to either grab the staff or throw a seed pack before they reach you. There are two bandits in front of you and two behind you. One trys to go for your pack mule and the others try to unhorse you. You decide how the battle goes and what you do. If you want some randomness with the battle roll a dice everytime you make a decision. If it's an even number your decision did what you wanted, and if you roll odd your decision was wrong. (example good: you throw a binding seed bag at the bandit (roll even) it hits perfectly where you aimed and you rapidly grow the vines and the bandits get tangled and cannot attack you. example bad: you throw a binding seed bag at the bandit ( roll odd) it misses the bandit and thuds harmlessly on the ground behind him, you can't bind him because he is out of the vine's range. If you have questions put them in parentheses.) Good luck!

ok, then you figure out how the fight goes...because there's too many decisions you have to make. if we did the fight by writing between us it'd take like a week to do just one fight.

for other ideas on how to get a random element 1) scribble on a piece of paper then count the lines, you know what to do if it's odd or even. 2) write numbers on a piece of paper, close your eyes, and point to one. 3) most computers have a calculator in the accesories file, open that, then close your eyes, and click randomly at one of the numbers. If you don't want to do that then just wing it
